The Dana Brothers

While John and Mary Greene were in their fifties and relatively new to the Ohio Territory, Luther and William Dana were young men, twenty-four and twenty-two respectively and seasoned pioneers. In May, 1788, with his two oldest sons, Capt William Dana came to Marietta. Family tradition has it that in the fall of that year while Capt. Dana traveled back east to gather his wife and remaining children, the two oldest boys, then only fourteen and twelve years of age, stayed in the new Beplre Settlement. Although the other Belpre residents were nearby, the Dana boys lived alone in a covered wagon all that first winter until Capt. Dana was finally able to make it back to Belpre.  (Complete Dana Genealogy files will be found on the Genealogy Page.)
