Notes for Capt. Theodore Edgerton Greenwood:

The Marietta Register Friday, October 3, 1862

Capt. Theodore E. Greenwood, son of George Greenwood, of this county, and a native of Newport, died on last Sunday morning at Jacinto, the county seat of Tishamingo Co., Miss. some fifteen miles south of Corinth. His age was about 24 years. We have no particulars of his sickness.

Capt. Greenwood graduated at the head of his class in Marietta College in 1859. For a time, subsequently, he was a Tutor in the College. He began to read law, but his taste was to be called a "business man." Soon after the beginning of the war he became Post Quartermaster at Marietta, in the Ohio service which then had nine "State" regiments just going into Western Virginia. The duties of this post be discharged with singular  fidelity and exactness, giving him a high reputation at headquarters. He was subsequently in the Government service at Wheeling. Last spring he received a staff appointment, with the rank of Captain. He went South, and at the time of his death was the Adjutant upon the staff of Gen. Rosecrans.

Capt. Greenwood was one of the most promising young men ever raised in Washington County. He had the talents and acquirements. He was retiring and unassuming, but energetic and exact. He was diligent and conscientious in the discharge of duty. Many will mourn this brief but very honorable career. He was a member of the congregational Church.
