John Dye2 Riley (Matson1) was born 18 Sep 1810 in Little Kanawah River Valley, Wood Co., Virginia, and died 04 Mar 1891.  He married (1) Katherine King Abt. 1830.  She was born 1812, and died 1832.  He married (2) Elizabeth Leachman 17 Aug 1834, daughter of Thomas Leachman and Sarah Coe.  She was born 24 Jan 1815 in Wood Co., Virginia, and died 24 Apr 1902.

John Dye Riley, a Baptist Minister served the Baptist Church in Parkersburg. West. Virginia from October 1841 to December 1843; Lawrence Baptist from 1844 to 1853. He also served the Newport Baptist Church from 1851 to 1868. For two years he had both the Lawrence and the Newport churches.

Rev Watson Dana was the first Pastor at Center Valley Baptist Church by unanimous vote on August 3, 1872. He served until 1875. He again served as Pastor of Center Valley from March 1881 to August 1883. In the early years of his life her was in the mercantile business in Newport.

        10.  Dr. Calvin Thomas3 Riley (John Dye2, Matson1) was born 21 Mar 1848 in Washington Co., Ohio, and died 09 May 1935.  He married Maria Dana 12 Oct 1871 in Washington Co., Ohio, daughter of Charles Dana and Eunice Churchill.  She was born Mar 1851 in Newport Township,  Washington Co., Ohio, and died 1929.

 

Notes for Dr. Calvin Thomas Riley:

Dr. C. T. Riley who is successfully engaged in the practice of medicine in New Matamoras, Washington County, Ohio enjoys the confidence of the public to an unlimited degree and has a large and lucrative patronage. The Doctor was born in Washington County on March 21, 1848, and is the son of Rev. J. D. and Elizabeth Leachman Riley. Virginians by birth.

Dr. C. T. Riley attended public school during his youth and afterward took a more complete course in Marietta Academy. He subsequently followed teaching as a profession for a period of ten years, three of which were spent as instructor in the New Matamoras High School. In 1872 he commenced to read medicine with a wire of making a physician of himself. Some time later he entered the Pulte Homeopathic Medical College of Cincinnati, and graduated in the class of 1881. Returning to Washingotn County he began his practice of his profession at New Matamoras, which is still his home. From the start his success was pronounced and his practice is now second to none in his locality.

October 12, 1871, Dr. Riley wedded Maria Dana, was was born In Newport, Ohio and is the daughter of Charles Dana, a prosperous merchant of that place, Mrs Riley was educated at Denison University, at Grandville, Ohio, and a lady of high social attainments, and a writer of no little note. Her Mother's maiden name was Churchill and she was a native of Massachusetts. She and her husband reared four children of whom Mrs. Riley is the third. The others are: Watson, a minister; Fanny wife of Dr. McElHinney and Dr. Wiliams, deceased.

Dr. Riley is a pronounced advocate of the temperance cause and votes the Prohibition ticket. He and his wife are regular attendants of the Baptist Church of which the Doctor is a deacon and in which both are active workers. The Doctor is also superintendent of the Sunday-School. Socially, he is a valued member of the Court of Honor.
