Eileen Mae Thomas

Eileen Mae Thomas, 74, of Newport, died at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday (May 3, 2011) home with her family by her side.

She was born on Thursday, Nov. 12, 1936, in Beavertown, to the late Charles and Margaret Beaver Berga.

Eileen was a member of the Newport Baptist Church, Newport Baptist Mission Society, and the Newport Volunteer Fire Dept. She enjoyed helping out with the Historical Society, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and 4-H club. She was a volunteer aide for Newport elementary, and parent-teachers association. She also wrote "Footprints of Newport Township (1798-1993)."

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Herman E. Thomas; one son, Perry (Ann) Thomas; two daughters, Barbara (Mark) Mackey, and Penny (Gary) Rutherford; five grandchildren, Nicholas Mackey, Michelle Mackey, Brandon Rutherford, Kelly Goble, and Ben Goble; two sisters, Peggy (Doyle) Taylor, and Linda (Rick) Rinard; and one sister-in-law, Faye Berga.

In addition to her parents, Eileen is preceeded in death by one brother, Jimmy Berga; and one grandson, 1st Lt. Christopher N. Rutherford.

Visitation will be at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m.. on Friday at the Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel with the Rev. Doug Brown officiating.
